Faith in Action: How We’re Tackling Homelessness

What is the true meaning of Faith?

Faith is confidence in what we hope for and the assurance that God is working, even though we cannot see it. Faith knows that no matter what the situation, in our lives or in someone else's, there is hope.

United Hope Builders is: Faith in Action.

161,000 California residents experiencing homelessness are counting on us to lean into that faith. We have faith in our mission that even though it seems like the trek on the mountain to end homelessness is never ending, it WILL cease to exist.

This is faith in action.

We’re Tackling…
The Current State of the Market

Homelessness in the Bay Area has surged in recent years. Prices are rising, and more and more people are becoming unhoused. A full-time minimum wage earner can’t afford a 2-bedroom anywhere in the United States. We are facing a nationwide housing crisis at the expense of so many vulnerable individuals. In the Bay Area alone, we have seen skyrocketing numbers of new businesses only to be coupled with seemingly slow-moving housing construction.

What we’re doing about this: the indieDwell California factory build is just the beginning to not only quickening the speed of housing construction while creating housing solutions that a full-time minimum wage worker could afford.

We’re Tackling…
A Risky Imbalance

“From 2011 to 2017, the Bay Area created 531,400 new jobs but approved only 123,801 new housing units... a ratio of 4.3 jobs for every unit of housing (compared to the U.S recommended ratio of 1.5).” Scaling this back even further, between 1999 and 2023, the Bay Area will have built 97,000 fewer units of affordable housing than recommended by the state. This imbalance created a major supply versus demand issue.

What we’re doing about this: the indieDwell California factory build will bring balance to the Bay Area and aims to deliver 400 modular housing units per year.

We’re Tackling…
Policy Change

Our state lawmakers have heard our concerns and are taking great strides to affect change. San Francisco Mayor London Breed developed a plan that primarily focused on increasing housing options for folks experiencing homelessness, the Homelessness Recovery Plan. This plan was announced a little over two years ago, and included investing in the largest development of permanent, supportive housing in two decades. Since Mayor Breed announced this plan, more than 1,490 new units have opened. Great strides have been made by California legislators and policy makers to aid the unhoused through investing in the creation of permanent, supportive housing, and more.

What we’re doing about this: We will continue to be the voice of change in our community, speaking to the need for affordable housing and raising awareness of this dire mission through our platforms to let all who have ears to hear. We won’t rest until there is affordable housing for all.

This is faith in action.

At United Hope Builders, we are working day in and day out to aid the unhoused. We are a nonprofit organization established to manufacture modular steel homes as a long-term solution to the housing crisis that exists in California. UHB will produce housing developments and bring about economic improvement through jobs, job training, and life skills support. We have faith that there is strength in numbers. We have faith in eradicating generational poverty. We have faith in ending homelessness for good.

We have faith in action.
